About Erin Ashbacher

When did you first start riding and how did you get into it?

I started MTB in 2019 when a good friend sold me on a ladies cycling trip. After I was “all in” when she told me all about it, she then informed me that I wouldn’t be able to take my road bike but rather I would have to buy a mountain bike and learn a whole new sport. I was already excited about taking the trip with her so I bought a new mountain bike and jumped in. 4 days of riding later, I was hooked. I like to say I am someone who loves being on my bike (any bike!) and accidentally fell in love with MTB!

If you were to describe your riding style in one word, what would it be?

Fun!

Who was/is your inspiration for riding and why?Erin Ashbacher, Shred Sisters Coach

My older sister started mountain biking in her early 20s and took a break when she started a family. It wasn’t until 2019 that I got to start riding with her and I spent all of the 2020 season trying to keep up with her. Her passion for MTB is infectious and every ride we get to share together is always special.

What’s the best thing about mtb for you?

The best thing about MTB is connecting with others by sharing a great trail and seeing our amazing country on my bike!

What’s unique about your coaching style?

If you are looking for someone to geek out with regarding biomechanics, how your body functions or how to fix your movement, I’m your gal!

What makes you, you? What’s your best quirk?

Riding bikes is fun, we don’t have to take it so seriously! I strive to have my athletes feel confident in their abilities to try something new, push their limits just a little, and always have fun.

Favourite trail?

Favorite “close to home trail” – Goldilocks

Dream destination? Croatia

Favourite trailside snack?

Hornby bar or fruit snacks

What do you want your students to gain from your coaching/teaching?

To be brave to try something new, trust you have the skills, and know that it’s ok to walk it today so you can rip it tomorrow!

What has been the most valuable piece of advice you’ve been given or received in mountain biking or any other sport?

You are the one in your body, listen to it and trust that you can!
