About Terrie Batycki
Calling Cochrane, Alberta home, back in 2012 Terrie was re-introduced to single track mountain biking through her tight group of friends, as she developed her skill, she outgrew her first bike and upgraded; her mountain bike passion was ignited.
With all the amazing local trails available within a short drive, there is always a trail to suit the new day! Personal physical fitness and outdoor activities have always been important to Terrie so while mountain biking required a whole new set of skills, she worked hard to grow her comfort of the bike and the downhill flow trails. When asked; what is the best thing about mountain biking? Terrie is quick to answer, “Spending time with my dear friends, laughing, climbing, and engaging in all kinds of shenanigans!”
Having recently received her Level 1 PMBIA Coaching Certificate, Terrie is not new to instructing or facilitating. During her 20 plus year career with the RCMP, she instructed at the Canadian Police College in Ottawa, various police training centers and corporate businesses in Western Canada. Terrie understands risks, can critically think to help her students overcome fears and obstacles by helping them mentally prepare for what might make the rider feel nervous or unsettled. Using her fun natured and easy going attitude her teaching style is one around supporting and encouraging beginner riders in a fun and positive learning environment. Terrie is also a mother to two beautiful children who are active in sport. Terrie encouraged an active lifestyle where she challenged and motivated them to try new things. She is compassionate and patient and this combined with her passion for mountain biking and nature makes her super keen for helping others get out and ride their bikes!
Terrie is an outdoor enthusiast and recently accomplished the 2019 Victoria 70.3 Half-Ironman in June and the full Ironman in Whistler a month later! Triathlon competition and training has shown Terrie that when you put your mind to a task, overcome adversity and fears, maintain a positive outlook then anything is possible. Hard work, determination and having fun are core values that she embodies.
When out on the trails, you will hear Terrie hootin’ and hollering, making noise while she climbs to the mountain tops. Her curiosity of what is just around the corner keeps her wanting to spend more time on her mountain bike. When not working on her latest creative creations at home, Terrie is looking to develop her skills in the mountain bike skills park where she enjoys the jumps and drops. If you haven’t been to your local pump track, skill park or drop zone get out there to support your local volunteer group and put in some laps.
Terrie’s favorite trail is located on Vancouver Island on Maple Mountain. With the well-developed climbing trails to the fun, flowy technical descents, the beautiful rain forest and vista views of the Pacific Ocean combine to make this destination one of her all-time favorites. “Oh, but I do love the West Coast in general – Whistler, Squamish area!”
Until we meet again…
“Treat the earth well; it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors; we borrow it from our children”. Step outside and enjoy all that nature provides ~ take your bike with you!!
And please respect the work done by all our volunteers who work hard to build our amazing biking network ~ don’t braid the trails, only braid your hair ~ Haha!
