About Meagan Noel

When did you first start riding and how did you get into it? Meagan Noel, Mountain Bike Coach

In 2010 I found myself dating a bike mechanic, and he got me hooked!

If you were to describe your riding style in one word, what would it be?

Adventurous

Who was/is your inspiration for riding and why?

I ride for my mental health. Getting out on the trails immediately changes my energy.

What’s the best thing about mtb for you?

The feeling of freedom ripping down a single-track trail

What’s unique about your coaching style?

I am crazy encouraging when you’re out on the trails with me. You are going to walk away feeling included, confident and like you just gained a friend.

What makes you, you? What’s your best quirk?

I am quick to smile and have a loud infectious laugh

Fun Fact about you or a short story?

Believe it or not, I grew up believing I was unathletic and sat out at gym class. Getting on a mountain bike changed my life. I was terrible at first and slowly I started to improve. My progression stayed stagnant for a long time until I upgraded my bike and started taking lessons with other women… there was a lot more to know than the “boys” made it out to be. Once I surrounded myself with other strong female riders my progression took off and I haven’t looked back!

Favourite trail?

How could I pick one?

  • Thirsty Beaver, Cumberland, BC – a Cumberland classic with lots of fun woodwork, log rides, with some jumps and berms to give it a bit of flow.

  • Deer Pass, Big Creek Provincial Park, South Chilcotins, BC – starting with a float plan drop off at an alpine lake at 2,000m, this route takes you on a hike-a-bike journey through technical flowy alpine single-track mountain passes, past alpine lakes to a backcountry camp

  • Locally, you’ll find me lapping Twisted Sister, French Connection, Mighty Quinn with my trail dog, Cadence.

Dream destination?

Mountain biking The Sacred Valley of Peru – Combining the history of the Inca Empire’s arts, culture and architectural wonders with 25,000m of descending among the second highest mountain range in the world. It’s on my bucket list.

Favourite trailside snack?

L’ara bar and Peanut m&ms

What do you want your students to gain from your coaching/teaching?

Confidence and love for riding

What has been the most valuable piece of advice you’ve been given or received in mountain biking or any other sport?

You are stronger than you think you are.
