How did your mountain biking journey begin? What got you hooked on riding?

Good friends invited me on an “easy” ride, which turned out to be a challenging old-school cross-country adventure on my hardtail. I was hooked from that moment on, and over 20 years later, I still ride with them today.

Who or what has inspired you the most in your mountain biking journey?

After watching a video on the BC Bike Race, I dreamed of being good enough to ride in it. I took a few skills camps, some private lessons on the West Coast, and finally committed as a birthday gift to myself a few years later. The experience made me a much better rider.

What’s the best thing about mountain biking for you? What keeps you coming back for more?

Climbing reminds me that I’m getting stronger while enjoying the outdoors, and the exhilaration of going downhill is just pure fun.

How would you describe your coaching style? What makes your approach unique?

I focus on safe and fun learning! I’m patient, always smiling, and work to find the best tips, cues, and feedback that resonate with each rider. I love the saying, “progression, not perfection.”

If you could ride anywhere in the world, where would it be?

While Madeira and New Zealand are on my dream list, I always love riding the lush, green trails of the West Coast.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received—either in mountain biking or life?

A good riding and racing friend once told me, “Look where you want to go.” I used to get nervous and focus on obstacles instead of looking past them. Another piece of advice I always keep in mind is, “Keep your wheels rolling.” Sometimes, it’s actually harder to go too slow or stop in the middle of a technical section.
