About Mia Klause

How did your mountain biking journey begin? What got you hooked on riding?

I had just moved to Canmore and made it a personal mission to try everything—as long as it was outside. I bought a little Kona hardtail and immediately got a flat on a road ride on my way to try a trail in Bragg Creek, which made for a very long walk back (lesson learned!). Being able to forget how difficult the pedal up felt by having so much fun on the descent is what got me hooked.

What’s the best thing about mountain biking for you? What keeps you coming back for more?

Hard to narrow it down. Mountain biking has taken me to amazing places, introduced me to some truly rad people, and still allows space to head out solo and explore. I love having it in my quiver when travelling.

How would you describe your coaching style? What makes your approach unique?

I’m often the first point of contact for friends trying climbing, trail running, or mountain biking, and I believe first experiences matter deeply for someone’s long-term relationship with a sport. I was lucky to learn from very patient, stoked mentors and aim to pass that along. My style feels like riding with friends—supportive, observant, and adaptable. I love learning how people learn and finding the language that clicks for them.

What’s a fun fact or quirky trait that makes you, you?

What’s your all-time favourite trail—and what makes it special?

School of Rock (Coleman), Drops a Lot (Penticton), and Race of Spades (Moose Mountain). Each represents my own progression and the confidence I gained returning to trails that once felt challenging.

What’s your favourite snack while riding?

Fuzzy peaches and Go-Go Squeez.

What do you hope your students take away from your coaching?

I hope they learn a little about themselves, are kind to themselves, and discover where mountain biking can take them.
